AIRPORT EXPANSION PROGRAMME

The three-phase Capital Development Programme at Sangster commenced during the 1999/2000 financial year to complete a significant portion of the Phase 1A works, prior to the handover to the new operator in April 2003.  The new operator, MBJ Airports Limited, achieved practical completion of Phase 1A construction in December 2003. This final stage resulted in the installation of six (6) passenger boarding bridges at the existing terminal building. 

 
Phase 1A: April 2003 – March 2004 COMPLETED
Phase 1B: January 2004 – December 2005 COMPLETED
Phase 2: January 2006 – July 2008 WORK IN PROGRESS

Completion:
Installation of public address, security control system and six passenger boarding bridges
Temporary Ground Transportation Hall
Additional baggage carousels, larger baggage claim area
 
Phase 1B: January 2004 – December 2005

New Eastern Concourse (16,500m2), reflecting a distinct  “Jamaican Sense of Place”, with additional restaurants and duty free shops.
Additional incoming and outgoing Immigration positions
New Flight and Baggage Information and Building Automation Systems
Tarmac capacity increased to 22 Aircraft and 17 jet bridges
Ability to accommodate B747 aircraft simultaneously on 5 passenger boarding bridges
Peak arriving and departing passengers per hour increased to 4,200
Airport Terminal capacity has doubled with completion of Phase 1B
 
Phase 2: January 2006 – July 2008

            Five-star, Jamaican style 4,500 ft2 mini Terminal at eastern
            end of the Airport. Dedicated Immigration and Customs services.
            Entrance/Exit road separate from main Terminal building.
