AIRPORT EXPANSION PROGRAMME

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The three-phase Capital Development Programme for the Norman Manley International Airport, resulting from the 20-year Master Plan Study completed in October 2003 is underway, having commenced in 2004.  The major deliverables of Phase 1A are the new Departures Wing and the arrivals/departures 2-level Passenger Pier.

In Phase 1A of the development the new three-level Departures Wing, of approximately 10,000 m2, will be integrated with the existing Ticketing Concourse.  A significantly expanded area will be available for Passport Control, Security Screening and a new Departures Lounge with food and retail concessions.  A notable feature of this project is that sufficient space will be created to once again allow well-wishers to enter the Terminal Building to bid farewell to friends and relatives in an orderly way.

The existing arrivals/departure Pier will also be redeveloped during this phase to provide for a two-level structure to accommodate the separation of arriving and departing passengers, in compliance with regulatory requirements.   A number of the terminal gates will also be equipped with Passenger Loading Bridges.   The existing Immigration Hall will also be expanded to eliminate congestion during peak periods and to better facilitate passenger flow and processing requirements.  The Customs offices and Arrivals area will also be extensively refurbished.

Another significant component of Phase 1A is the construction of the NMIA Cargo and Logistics Centre.  Construction of segment 1, comprising 39,500 square feet of new cargo operations and office space is completed (February 2006) The new Queen’s Warehouse and associated Customs offices is currently accommodated in the Centre.
